Bubbles, Bubbles...

As far as the eyes can see. Well, almost.
We had a few bubbles and boy were they good!

This morning I asked Room 7 about a wondering question I often have. It was "I wonder if bubbles are always round?" Which started a very good debate in Room 7 and lots of people decided that bubbles weren't always round. Sometimes it depended on what you used to make the bubble with, the shape of the wand that you used and many other factors. Room 7 were pretty convinced that bubbles weren't always round.

But, what makes a bubble a bubble?

We talked about personal bubbles. They are bubbles we all have that help us know how close we like people to be around us. But we can't see them. What shape would they be if we could see them? Would they be round? Does that count in Miss Signal's question. Is that the kind of bubble we were talking about?

So. We decided that we needed to make bubbles to find out. Well, Miss Signal did because it looked like this might be a wondering question that doesn't have an easy answer. (Secretly, we like those kinds of questions in Room 7).

We put all the equipment together (some water and soap) and headed outdoors with our trusty bubble makers... our hands. Miss Signal showed us how to make bubbles with our hands, just like her nana had taught her to do when she was younger. *Sorry parents for any bubble mess that may have happened tonight! 

Next all sorts of excitement was created.  While some students madly rubbed their hands together like they were starting a fire other students were beginning to blow some great bubbles.  The best of the day was BK who was very excited about the bubbles that he blew.  But as the bubbles started coming, we noticed that no matter what shape our hands were in, triangles, diamonds or circles and no matter how long the bubble was when it was blown, it would... eventually... end up as a circle.

So, we were back to the start.  Lots of us changed our minds about bubbles not always being round.  But actually it started a lot of new thoughts and ideas.  But, we still don't have an answer.

So, I wonder if you know?  Why are bubbles always round?

Thinking about the Future!

Our term focus is looking at miss-takes/re-takes and our learning process.  To kick start our term we've been investigating our school values - Respect, Success, Team, Fun and Integrity. 

We have been working through a range of different tasks to use these values and examine life with and without them.

So, we split into groups and each group took a value.  They then talked about what would happen at our school if this value wasn't used or we didn't use it.

This lead to some great discussions in groups around this value and it's importance in our daily lives.  It gave the students a chance to also consider a range of perspectives.  How would this outcome affect parents, siblings, classmates, teachers, our deputy principals, principal? What would this mean for them?
